Meet Joseph Czwazka
What is your name and title?
Joseph Czwazka, Assistant Manager of Cardiac Services at Broward Health Medical Center.
How long have you worked at Broward Health?
I have been part of the Broward Health Family for the last four and a half years.
Describe your typical work day.
A typical work day in Cardiac Services is always invigorating. As much as you can have a plan for your day, you can almost bet you will have at least one curveball thrown your way. Heart attacks, heart blocks, and arrhythmias are never planned.
What motivates you to come to work each day?
My motivation to come to work every day, besides the wonderful people that I work with, is the gratification I get by being a part of truly saving someone’s life every day! Being able to share the news to a patient and/or family member that they will be ok is something that gives me the greatest joy.
How does your job contribute to Broward Health's mission of delivering quality, compassionate care?
Most patients come into Broward Heath Medical Center intimidated and frightened. Having the ability to be compassionate to their needs, I enjoy playing a part in reducing those anxieties and fears most people have just by walking through our doors. To be able to have that connection with a patient and in return have them put their trust in you as a medical professional that they are in good hands and are getting the best possible care is why we are here.
What advice would you give to a new employee just starting their career in healthcare?
My best advice to any new employee getting into healthcare is to always remember that our patients are people with fears and feelings. Try to always put yourself in their shoes and treat them the way you would want yourself or family member to be treated.
How do you like to relax?
For me, the best relaxation is to sit in a café with a nice cup of coffee and watch people strolling by.
What are you most proud of personally or professionally?
I think I am most proud of the person I have become through all my life experiences.
What is on your music playlist?
My music playlist is a diverse array of sounds from different cultures from around the world. I love the variety of different backgrounds put into song.
If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
If I could have dinner with anyone in the world alive or dead, there is really one person that comes immediately into mind: my mom! Unfortunately, she passed early in life and to be able to share a meal and conversation with her again would fill my heart and lift my spirits.
