As a breast cancer survivor, Patricia Brown, a medical secretary, uses her experience to help newly diagnosed patients. After her annual mammogram at Lillian S. Wells Women's Health Center, Brown was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer.

"I used what I went through to help other women," said Patricia.

At the time, Brown was working at the Health Center when she was diagnosed. Her experience gave her greater empathy for her patients, as well as gratitude for her fellow Broward Health employees who became her support network. She wanted to pay it forward by giving back to others.

“I have always tried to give back,” she said. “I share my testimony with other women who are going through the same experience.”

For the past eight years, she’s participated in breast cancer walks. She’s also helped women obtain grants to obtain funding for breast cancer treatment and urges women to get regular breast cancer screenings.
