Learn to Budget, Not Bicker

By learning to budget and work through money problems, you can work toward building a strong financial foundation, while keeping the bickering at bay.

Tips for discussing finances with your partner:

  1. Schedule a monthly check-in. Irregular or unfocused talks can give the impression that everything is okay financially.

  2. Allow time for sorting through any money issues when you and your partner aren’t finding common ground.

  3. Don’t bring up non-financial issues. It only makes it harder to achieve successful outcomes regarding your money.

  4. Sum it up. Decide what the next steps will be and make an action plan. This can help clear up any misunderstandings.

  5. Consider putting your summary in writing so you can go back and refer to it during your next discussion.
