FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - The Broward Health Foundation collaborated with EllaRae Boutique on December 15 for an amazing day, pampering 20 cancer patients at Broward Health Medical Center. The local boutique gifted cancer patients with personalized wigs and fittings. Patients also had their make-up done by the Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry.
It was an emotional experience for many, as women saw themselves in the mirror for the first time after their makeovers. Patients even cheered each other on while trying on their wigs.
“We want you to know how beautiful and strong you are,” said Priscilla Diaz, co-owner of EllaRae Boutique. “We know that facing cancer can impact self-confidence, and we hope that these wigs will not only enhance your outer beauty but also serve as a reminder of the strength within you.”
During the event, the women also got a chance to relax by doing yoga with Jill Adler and making bracelets with Letty donated by Marta’s beads, and Boston Proper held a raffle for a $250 gift card to be used for purchases from their clothing store. Images of the event were captured by Jaxton Photography.
“Broward Health cherishes its patients and understands that chemotherapy treatments can be a physical and emotional struggle for women who are battling cancer,” said Eileen LaMarca with Broward Health Foundation. “It is a privilege to honor these women for their resilience and strength, and to contribute to their journey of self-confidence.”
The patients, who are currently undergoing breast and colon cancer treatment, are in varying stages of their cancer journeys, although some are considered terminal. Events like this provide patients with an opportunity to temporarily forget their diagnoses and instead laugh and feel empowered. Funding for the event was provided via generous donations to the Broward Health Foundation. If you’d like to support Broward Health patients, consider donating at BrowardHealthFoundation.org.
