Meet Dr. Arnoux Blanchard
What is your complete name and official physician title:Arnoux Blanchard, MD, FACC, Program Director of Broward Health's Cardiovascular Fellowship Program
What is your area of specialty?Cardiology, Internal Medicine
In which Broward Health hospital do you practice? Broward Health Medical Center.
How long have your worked at Broward Health? 10 years
Describe the moment you knew you wanted to be a doctor: Growing up in Montreal, I went on a class trip when I was 12. We went to the airport and visited a simulation room. I asked how I could become a pilot, but I wore thick glasses and my vision prevented me from flying planes. I chose medicine instead.
What do you most want people to know about the way you practice medicine? That I care for my patients. I really do.
What’s one health and wellness tip you wish all your patients would follow? Exercise and eat well. I encourage my patients to live a healthier life.
What have you learned from your patients? To be humble. By nature and training, physicians are curious. With curiosity, if you don’t keep things in check you can become arrogant. However, in medicine you cannot escape the bell curve. With every patient, you must remain curious. If you're not careful, you can miss a diagnosis.
Do you volunteer in the community? What groups are you involved with and did you choose those groups for a special reason? I'm president of Heart-to-Heart World Mission, a consortium of doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists and other medical and non medical professionals who are dedicated to help improve the lives of those less fortunate. Our primary focus is caring for the undeserved communities of Jamaica, Haiti and neighboring countries in the Caribbean. We provide screening, basic health and dental care, nutritional supplements, health education and community health improvement and other health related services.
