Name:Gileine Mercius, Social Worker, MSW, RC SWI
Department:Atrium ICU, Tower ICU RCU
What I do at Broward Health:I am a clinical social worker who wears my cape proudly to serve the Broward Health community. Being a social worker entails a variety of roles; I assist patients with discharge planning and provide on-going support to family members who have loved ones in our intensive care units. Additionally, I've been a pillar of leadership. Over the years I've had the pleasure of training student social workers and incoming staff members. Training has allowed me to give back the values and skills I've gained through my experience as a social worker.
Years at Broward Health: 3
What motivates me to come to work each day:I am motivated to come to work every day because I get the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of patients.
My favorite Broward Health moment: Advocating for patients who are unable to do so for themselves.
Some advice I’d give to a new employee just starting their career in healthcare: Remember to stay true to yourself and respect the code of ethics
How I like to relax: Shopping
What I’m most proud of personally or professionally: I am proud to be a clinical social worker who helps people cope and solve problems in their everyday lives. I strongly believe we have an amazing team of social workers at BHMC. Oftentimes, we are faced with challenges, but it’s always rewarding at the end.
What’s on my playlist: Gospel, hip hop and R&B
If I could have dinner with anyone in the world, alive or dead, it would be: My loving Aunt who passed away seven months ago.
