Step Out With Sonia

When Sonia Del Rosario's father passed away eight years ago from complications of Type 2 diabetes, it was a life-changing moment for her.

She decided to get tested for the metabolic disorder and found that she too had diabetes. The diagnosis sent her on a journey to transform her health. She underwent bariatric surgery and eventually shed 85 pounds. She continues to maintain her health through diet and exercise and no longer needs medication. She'll be participating in the upcoming Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes in memory of her father and to celebrate her health.

“This is a fundraiser that’s near and dear to my heart,” said Sonia, regional manager of compensation, who has been working at Broward Health’s Corporate office for the past seven months.

When Sonia participates in the 5k walk on October 20, it will be the three-year anniversary of when she had her bariatric surgery and received a new lease on life. She’s hoping the walk will raise awareness about diabetes and its devastating impact.

“Type 2 diabetes can take over your whole life,” Sonia said. “It can affect your vision, your mood, everything. But if you catch it early, you can do something about it.”

Join Sonia and register for the upcoming Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, which will take place on Saturday, October 20 at Huzienga Park in Fort Lauderdale. Register here: https://bit.ly/2P10Vyc
