We are disappointed to share that Cigna will no longer consider Broward Health physicians and hospitals as part of its network beginning April 1, 2024.

For months, our team has been working with Cigna to achieve a new contract. Our discussions with Cigna are about fairness; we are simply asking that Cigna reimburse our team at levels that are:

  • Comparable to what they reimburse other health care providers in South Florida, and
  • Comparable to rates provided by other insurance companies for the same services.

Unfortunately, Cigna has been unwilling to reach a new, fair agreement that values the care our team provides. As a result, Cigna will no longer consider Broward Health hospitals and physicians part of its network beginning April 1, 2024.

As a public healthcare system with a mission of caring for the members of our Broward community and all others who seek care at our facilities, Broward Health strives to ensure that our community members and patients have access to the quality care they need.

If a new agreement is not reached, Broward Health hospitals and physicians will be out of network beginning April 1, 2024.

All plans offered by Cigna, including Commercial/Marketplace and Medicare would be affected.

Patients who have already started to receive care at our hospitals may be able to continue to receive care for such treatment at Broward Health for a period of time on an in-network basis, depending on the nature of the condition, the patient’s health plan, and other circumstances. After April 1, 2024, before continuing patient treatment, please contact your health insurer by calling the telephone number on your ID card to determine whether non-emergency services are covered on an in-network basis or otherwise.

Your out-of-pocket costs will likely increase for non-emergent services rendered by Broward Health if an agreement is not reached between Broward Health and Cigna before April 1. With respect to emergency services, however, under federal law, your out-of-pocket costs are required to be no different for out-of-network services than if you had been treated at an in-network facility. You can read more about your financial protections when you obtain out-of-network emergency services here.

All Broward Health services, facilities, clinics and physicians will be impacted.
