"Breast Cancer Has No Age Limit and Can Affect Anyone"

At the age of 26 Jasmine Harris was dreaming of her future when she heard four words that changed her life: You have breast cancer.

"I remember it like it was yesterday. I was shocked and at a loss for words," Harris recalls. I couldn't understand how someone my age could be diagnosed with breast cancer."

Jasmine didn't let the news defeat her. She made up her mind that she would fight the cancer. With support from Broward Health North's Cancer Center along with her family and friends Jasmine did just that.

After months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation therapy, Jasmine says "it was just something I had to go through to tell people my story and to be inspiration to someone else."

Now cancer free, Jasmine shares her story to encourage others to keep fighting and not give up.

Harris praises the healthcare professionals at Broward Health North, crediting them with saving her life and by first detecting the cancer and providing lifesaving treatments. She is grateful for the staff for their emotional support through every step of her treatment.

Three months after receiving the news that she was cancer free, Jasmine received news she was pregnant!

"Broward Health North saved my life so that I could create life." Her son just turned a year old and is happy and healthy just like his mom.

Harris says she wants to "encourage everyone to get a breast exam because breast cancer has no age limit and can affect anyone. You are the only one who knows your body and the self-check is an easy way for early detection."

Jasmine is grateful for the future she now has and for the chance to live her life with purpose.
