Treasurlyn, or "Mrs. White" as she is affectionately known as by her students at Coral Springs Middle School, woke up one school day realizing something was wrong. She felt drowsy and disoriented, lost sensation on her right side and was unable to speak. Every time she tried to get up to go to the bathroom she would fall back down. Her husband found her on the floor of the bedroom, knew something wasn't right and called 9-1-1.
EMS took her to Broward Health North's Emergency Department where tests revealed a blood clot in her brain. Treasurlyn underwent a successful mechanical thrombectomy, by Ridwan Lin, neurointerventionalist and she was back in school teaching in two weeks.
Treasurlyn, an educator for 20 years, was shocked she had a stroke because she had no known risk factors. She is very thankful for the excellent care she received from Broward Health North's medical team, and because of their quick actions, she has no side effects. She's been following up with Dr. Lin every six weeks and is taking steps to adopt a healthier lifestyle so she can keep teaching for years to come.
