Specialized Care for Memory Disorders

Our Memory Disorder Center offers a multidisciplinary approach to determine the cause of memory impairment. Memory loss can result from many causes, including thyroid imbalance, Alzheimer's disease, nutritional or metabolic disorders, stroke, or other neurological conditions. Our team of specialists, including neurologists, neuropsychologists, geriatric psychiatrists, social workers and nurses, provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.

Upon completing the diagnostic process, patients and their caregivers meet with the neurologist and other multidisciplinary team members to discuss diagnosis, care planning, and available resources.

When a patient is diagnosed with a memory disorder, such as like Alzheimer's disease, every family member is affected, especially the caregiver. The Memory Disorder Center offers a complete assistance network for patients and caregivers through our unique programs. One of only fifteen in the state, our Center is designated and funded by the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs as a part of the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative.

Why Choose Broward Health?

Broward Health Weston is home to the first Siemens Definition AS+ 128 Multi-Slice CT Scanner in Broward County. It's the world's first CT Scanner to adapt to virtually every patient and provides imaging for most types of diagnostic exams, including vessel imaging, cardiac tests and cancer staging. It's exceptionally fast – even faster than the human heart – and produces spectacular images; plus, in many cases, it eliminates the need for follow-up tests. Other diagnostic imaging tests for neurological disorders include:

  • Arteriogram
  • Electrodiagnostic tests
    • Electromyography (EMG)
    • Nerve conduction velocity (NCV)
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Positron emission tomography (PET)
  • Somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP)
  • Ultrasound (sonography)
