As the first hospital in Broward County to perform liver transplants, the South Florida Transplant Center at Broward Health Medical Center continues to provide transplant expertise.
Since 2004, our Liver Transplant Program has cared for patients suffering from end-stage liver disease. We continuously strive to provide dedicated liver transplantation services with excellent outcomes.
Transplantation involves surgically replacing the diseased organ with a healthy, new liver to restore liver function.
In addition to liver transplant services, the South Florida Transplant Center’s team of specialists is dedicated to caring for liver cancer patients. The team offers a multi-modal approach, including radiofrequency ablation, trans-arterial chemoembolization, and laparoscopic liver resection.
Complex hepatobiliary surgery cases, such as biliary reconstruction after bile duct injury and liver resections for benign and malignant diseases, are also part of the surgical team’s expertise.
Acute liver failure
Alcoholic cirrhosis
Cancerous liver or bile duct tumors
Drug-induced liver injury
Major blood vessel issues that supply the liver
Non-Alcoholic SteatoHepatitis (NASH)
Noncancerous tumors of the liver
Viral hepatitis
Your liver is an essential organ for digesting food and eliminating toxic substances from your body. Liver health is critical, but certain factors can cause damage to this vital organ, including:
The South Florida Transplant Center offers expert care close to home.
In 2018, Florida Blue recognized the South Florida Transplant Center as a Blue Distinction® Center for Transplants for Adult Liver Transplant. The recognition is a part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program, which recognizes nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering enhanced patient safety and superior health outcomes based on objective measures developed with input from the medical community.
Data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) demonstrates that our program’s outcomes are among the nation’s best. In fact, in 2017, SRTR recognized the program as one of the top 10 in the nation for liver transplants, and Broward Health Medical Center was the only Florida hospital included on the list.
This prestigious recognition demonstrates the liver transplant team’s continued commitment to excellence.
