Established by the Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Staff to support students from our workplace and surrounding community as they pursue academic excellence and careers in health care.
Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Staff Scholarship
The Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Staff Scholarship provides financial support to students pursuing a career in a health-related field. Each scholarship award totals $1,500 and is granted once per recipient. Funds are issued as a single payment made directly to the student’s college or university.
Each year, two scholarships are awarded. One scholarship is designated for the child or legal ward of a Broward Health Coral Springs employee. The second scholarship is awarded to a student who resides within an eight mile radius of Broward Health Coral Springs. Members of the Medical Staff, their immediate family members, and children of Broward Health administration or management staff are not eligible.
Eligibility Categories
Applicants must meet the criteria for one of the two categories below.
Category 1: Broward Health Employee Family
Applicants must be the child or legal ward of a full or part time Broward Health Coral Springs
employee in good standing and be a permanent resident of Broward County.
Category 2: Broward Health Coral Springs Community
Applicants must attend a high school in Broward County and be a legal resident of an area located
within an eight mile radius of Broward Health Coral Springs.
General Eligibility Requirements
In addition to meeting the criteria for Category 1 or Category 2, all applicants must meet the following requirements.
- Submit an essay, no longer than one page or 600 words, describing educational goals and how the scholarship will support those goals.
- Be pursuing a 4-year degree in a health-related field of study, limited to Pre-med, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, or Pharmacy.
- Be attending or registered to attend an accredited college or university.
- Maintain a minimum weighted GPA of 4.0 and rank within the top 5% of the student’s class.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
Required Application Materials
- An official transcript.
- A letter of confirmation from a department head or student advisor verifying the applicant’s major course of study.
- Two completed letters of recommendation from separate individuals who know the applicant well. One letter must be from a school representative, such as a high school or college instructor, and one from someone outside of the school. Download Template.
- A letter from Broward Health Coral Springs Human Resources confirming the employee is in good standing, if applicable.
Final selection of scholarship recipients is determined by the Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Staff Medical Executive Committee and the Medical Staff Scholarship Committee. Scholarship checks are made payable directly to the recipient’s college or university.
