Brief Description of BHCS Med Staff Scholarship:
- $1500 total to each recipient.
- Given in one lump sum directly to the institution.
- The student may only receive this scholarship once.
- The scholarship will be awarded to 2 students per year.
- One student shall be the child or legal ward of a BHCS employee.
- One student shall be a legal resident of the designated areas included in an 8 miles radius from Broward Health Coral Springs.
- Members of the Medical Staff and their immediate family members are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Children of Broward Health Administration and management staff are not eligible for this scholarship.
For Consideration for the Scholarship, the Student Must Meet the Following Qualifications:
Either fall into:
Category 1: Broward Health Employee (excluding BH Administration/Management)
For Broward Health Coral Springs family candidates, the individual must be the child or legal ward of a full or part time employee at BHCS in good standing and also be a permanent resident of Broward County.
Or
Category 2: Broward Health Coral Springs Community
For the community candidates, the student must attend a high school in Broward County and be a legal resident of the designated areas within an 8 mile radius from Broward Health Coral Springs.
All Students Must Fulfill the Following Requirements, in Addition to Falling Into either Category 1 or 2, as Above:
- 1.) Write an essay, maximum one page or 600 words, detailing their plans for their education and scholarship.
- 2.) Be pursuing a 4 year degree in the health related fields of study: limited to Pre-med, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, or Pharmacy.
- 3.) Be attending or registered to attend an accredited college or university.
- 4.) Have a minimum weighted GPA of 4.0 and be ranked within the top 5% of the student’s class.
- 5.) Student must be taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
Applicants Must Provide:
- An OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT to be considered for candidacy.
- A letter of confirmation from a department head or student advisor regarding the applicant’s major course of study.
- Two (2) completed recommendations from two (2) separate people who know you well. One must be from someone inside the school (high school or college instructors) and the other from outside of your school. Download Template.
- A letter from BHCS HR indicating that the employee is in good standing, if applicable.
The ultimate decision of an applicant being accepted for the scholarship will be at the discretion of the BHCS Medical Staff Medical Executive committee and BHCS Medical Staff Scholarship Committee. All scholarship checks will be made payable to the college/university and presented to the scholarship recipient.
