Welcome from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program. When applying to a residency program, students and residents must consider many factors. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine and Broward Health Medical Center is a six-year training program that accepts three residents per year for a total of twelve residents.
To apply to our program, applicants must be graduates of an accredited dental school in the United States or Canada. Canadian applicants must have a TN NAFTA Professionals Visa. Applicants residing in the United States must be permanent residents.
The program is designed to provide residents with a broad academic and surgical experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Clinical exposure is offered through two Level I trauma centers in Broward County and two outpatient ambulatory surgical centers. Residents gain experience in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while providing services in ambulatory care centers, emergency departments, trauma bays and operating rooms. Key strengths include maxillofacial trauma, benign and malignant pathology, reconstruction, cleft and craniofacial surgery, facial cosmetics, dentoalveolar surgery, implant placement and temporomandibular joint surgery. Residents also complete formal rotations in anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, medicine, general/trauma surgery and cosmetic surgery.
The curriculum is designed to develop clinical, academic and communication skills that support diverse career paths. Graduates will be prepared to pursue a full-scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice and sit for specialty board certification.
