Dear Fellowship Candidate,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to our Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program. Our mission is to train the next generation of hematologists and oncologists in a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment. We are dedicated to equipping our fellows with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to become outstanding clinicians and leaders in the field.

Our campus is located in beautiful Deerfield Beach, South Florida—just minutes from the ocean and within close proximity to Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and West Palm Beach. This vibrant and diverse region offers a unique setting for both personal and professional growth.

Broward Health is one of the twenty largest public health systems in the United States. Broward Health North, our primary training site, is a 409-bed Level II trauma center offering a wide range of medical and surgical subspecialties.

Our fellowship program is thoughtfully designed to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded training experience. Fellows benefit from broad clinical exposure, in-depth didactic education, and meaningful research opportunities tailored to their interests and career aspirations.

About the Program

Our Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program offers a comprehensive training experience that prepares fellows for success in both community-based and academic settings. As part of the Broward Health System, which is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care, we focus on developing future leaders in the field of hematology and oncology.

The program provides a diverse and well-rounded clinical experience, exposing fellows to a wide range of hematologic and oncologic conditions with opportunities to refine diagnostic and treatment skills across multiple subspecialties. Fellows are equipped with the tools they need to excel in both private practice and academic careers, ensuring they can provide the highest level of care for their patients.

In addition to clinical expertise, we emphasize the importance of research, innovation and academic excellence. Our fellows are supported and mentored to engage in meaningful clinical research and contribute to scholarly publications, fostering the development of the next generation of medical thought leaders.

Our board-certified hematologists and oncologists offer expert care through:

  • Inpatient consultation service
  • On-site hospital-based practice, where care planning and treatment are provided by physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants. A full-time social worker helps eliminate barriers to care.

Robust Clinical Training: Core & Elective Rotations

Our fellowship program offers a thoughtfully designed curriculum that ensures comprehensive exposure to the full spectrum of hematology and oncology. Through a balance of core and elective rotations, fellows gain invaluable experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with access to a wide range of subspecialties and advanced therapies.

These foundational rotations are designed to develop strong clinical skills and provide in-depth knowledge in key areas of hematology and oncology:

  • Inpatient Hematology Consultation Service
  • Inpatient Oncology Consultation Service
  • Outpatient Hematology Clinic
  • Outpatient Oncology Clinic
  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Bone Marrow Transplantation

Fellows actively manage complex cases, participate in multidisciplinary care teams, and work closely with experienced faculty to build expertise in diagnosis, treatment, and longitudinal patient care.

Our diverse electives allow fellows to tailor their training to their individual interests and career goals. These rotations offer advanced insight into subspecialty care and research:

  • Radiation Oncology
  • Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • Hematopathology & Laboratory Medicine
  • Diagnostic Radiology
  • Gynecologic Oncology (additional exposure)
  • Clinical & Translational Research
  • Pathology
  • With a focus on flexibility and personalized learning, fellows are encouraged to pursue electives that align with their future practice interests—whether academic, clinical, or research-focused.

Applications

The Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Broward Health North is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program offering positions at the PGY-4 level. All applicants must have successfully completed a three-year Internal Medicine residency prior to the start of fellowship training.

Applications are accepted exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Program Leadership

Chintan C. Gandhi, MD - Associate Program Director

Dr. Chintan Gandhi received his medical degree from C.U. Shah Medical College. He is triple board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. He is actively involved with the fellowship program, clinical practice, utilization management review, and expert witness services, and has been in practice for 11–20 years. Dr. Chintan Gandhi’s interests include treating breast cancer, lymphoma, chronic leukemia, among other conditions.
