Rotation Descriptions
Below are detailed descriptions of the clinical rotations for each post-graduate year in the Infectious Disease Fellowship Program. These rotations are designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience across a variety of infectious disease settings and patient populations.
Transplant Infectious Disease Rotation
This rotation allows fellows to observe and participate in the outpatient management of post-solid organ transplant patients with infectious disease complications. Fellows will also engage in pre-transplant evaluations, focusing on comprehensive screening, vaccinations, prophylaxis and strategies to reduce infection risk.
Pediatric Infectious Disease Rotation
Fellows gain exposure to the full spectrum of infectious diseases affecting pediatric patients. This rotation emphasizes the diagnosis, prevention, transmission and treatment of infections caused by bacteria, mycobacteria, parasites and viruses in children.
Public Health Rotation (TB Clinic)
During the Public Health rotation, fellows participate in the evaluation and management of patients with latent and active tuberculosis. This experience highlights the intersection of infectious disease and public health within a dedicated TB clinic setting.
General Infectious Disease Rotation
All fellows take part in a 24-month continuity clinic experience at one or more designated outpatient sites. Clinics are held one half-day per week, and each fellow is paired with an on-site faculty mentor who provides consistent supervision and guidance.
Fellows manage a wide range of infectious conditions in this setting, including hospital discharge follow-ups—many of whom are on outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT)—as well as new outpatient consultations where infectious disease is part of the differential diagnosis.
Ambulatory HIV Continuity Care Clinic
Fellows also participate in a dedicated HIV continuity care clinic that spans at least 24 months. This rotation provides longitudinal care for patients with HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases. Fellows gain experience in managing disease progression, monitoring therapeutic outcomes and delivering comprehensive, long-term care to this unique patient population.
