Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Broward Health, where top-tier training meets sunny South Florida living!

Our program is based at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, just minutes from beautiful beaches and a short drive from Miami and West Palm Beach. Whether you love catching a sunrise before rounds or unwinding by the water on your day off, our location has it all.

Broward Health is one of the 20 largest public health systems in the U.S. Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC) is a 716-bed Level I trauma center in Fort Lauderdale. Since its founding in 1938, BHMC has grown into Broward County’s largest hospital, staffed by over 3,100 medical professionals and more than 800 physicians, offering nearly every medical specialty under one roof.

Our OBGYN Residency Program received initial ACGME accreditation in January 2026, offering three categorical positions per year. This milestone reflects the dedication of our experienced faculty and our commitment to graduate medical education.

PGY-1 Overview: Building a Strong Foundation in OBGYN

The first year of our Obstetrics and Gynecology residency (PGY-1) is designed to establish a solid foundation in patient care through a structured, diverse set of rotations. Residents gain early exposure to both obstetric and gynecologic care while developing essential clinical skills that prepare them for advanced training.

Training Highlights:

  • 16 weeks in Obstetrics: Labor and Delivery and inpatient OB, providing hands-on experience with deliveries, prenatal care, and high-risk cases
  • 8 weeks in Gynecology: Exposure to surgical and outpatient gynecologic care
  • 16 weeks in Ambulatory Clinic: General OB and GYN clinics, emphasizing continuity of care and outpatient management
  • 4 weeks in the Emergency Department: Experience in acute care, triage, and urgent gynecologic and obstetric cases
  • 4 weeks in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU): Training in critical care for complex surgical and obstetric patients

This comprehensive structure ensures PGY-1 residents build a broad clinical foundation, mastering the core competencies necessary to excel in subsequent years of OBGYN training.

All applications to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Broward Health are submitted through ResidencyCAS, are reviewed holistically, and participate in the NRMP Match.

  • A minimum of three Letters of Recommendation (department letter optional)
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts (Step 1 and Step 2 must be passed)

International Applicants

International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must meet the following requirements in addition to the application criteria listed above:

  • Graduated from medical school within the last five years
  • Passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2
  • USMLE Step 3 is not required to apply
  • Eligibility for an ECFMG Certificate
    • An ECFMG certificate must be on file for every IMG intern who matches with the program

Additional Requirements for International Applicants:

  • Eligibility for Florida Medical Training Licensure
