When to See a Heart Specialist

If you've noticed new or worsening heart symptoms, it’s important to connect with a cardiology specialist. Your provider can determine which tests are right for you and help you understand what’s happening with your heart.

Common Reasons for Heart Testing:

  • Intense or radiating chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Tingling, pain or numbness in the arms or legs
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

What to Expect During Heart Testing

Heart testing helps your care team understand how well your heart is working and identify any potential concerns early. Most tests are noninvasive and take place in an outpatient setting. Your cardiologist will explain each step, review your results, and guide you toward the next part of your care plan.

Common Diagnostic Tests

Our team uses advanced tools and imaging to evaluate your heart’s structure and function. Depending on your symptoms and health history, your provider may recommend one or more of the following tests:

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG): Measures your heart’s electrical activity to detect irregular rhythms.
  • Echocardiogram: Uses sound waves to create moving images of your heart and valves.
  • Stress Test: Evaluates how your heart performs during physical activity or medication-induced stress.
  • Cardiac CT or MRI: Produces detailed images to assess heart structure, arteries, and blood flow.
  • Holter or Event Monitor: Records your heart rhythm over time to catch irregular patterns.
  • Cardiac Catheterization: A minimally invasive procedure that provides precise information about blood flow and heart function.
