Sleep Disorders

Our sleep specialists at Broward Health diagnose and treat a wide range of sleep problems, helping you find restful, healthy sleep.

Better Sleep Awaits

Loud snoring, gasping for air at night, or waking up tired may be signs of a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea. For more than 40 years, Broward Health’s board-certified sleep specialists and trained technologists have helped patients find safer, more restful sleep.

When you come to us for care, we’ll start with:

  • Asking about your symptoms, such as waking up sweaty or with acid reflux
  • Gathering a detailed sleep history, including input from family members when possible
  • Reviewing your sleep patterns with a daytime and nighttime sleepiness score

This helps us find the right next steps for your care.

Sleep Testing and Diagnosis

Many patients can begin with a convenient home sleep test. We’ll provide a small monitor you wear overnight to track your breathing, oxygen levels, and sleep patterns. Once the results are ready, your specialist will review them with you and explain the next steps. For many people, this is enough to confirm a diagnosis such as sleep apnea.

If more information is needed, you may have an overnight sleep study at our sleep lab. During this test, our board-certified sleep specialists and technologists monitor your sleep in detail and ensure you are comfortable throughout the process.

How Sleep Affects Your Health

Quality sleep is essential for your overall well-being. Poor sleep can raise your risk for conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease and weight gain. Because excess weight can make sleep apnea worse, treatments that support weight loss may also improve your sleep.

At Broward Health, our sleep specialists work closely with your cardiologist and other providers to protect your health while improving your sleep.

Treatment Options for Better Sleep

CPAP Machines

A small bedside machine that delivers gentle air pressure through a mask to keep your airway open while you sleep. Newer models are quieter and use smaller, more comfortable masks.

Inspire Device

A small device placed under the skin by an ENT surgeon. It works with your breathing to gently stimulate the airway muscles and keep your airway open while you sleep.

Dental Appliances

Custom-made devices, similar to a mouthguard, that reposition the jaw or tongue to reduce snoring and treat mild to moderate sleep apnea.

Education & Support

Resources, handouts and one-on-one guidance to help you understand and manage your sleep disorder.
