Fort Lauderdale, Florida — The Broward Health Foundation has received a generous $2 million donation from The Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation, Inc., to elevate and expand the cardiovascular program at Broward Health Medical Center. The gift will support investments in state-of-the-art equipment and enhancements to the cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and hybrid catheterization labs.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to The Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation for entrusting us with this significant investment,” said Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health. “This donation will allow Broward Health to further enhance our advanced cardiovascular care and improve the lives of patients in Broward County and beyond.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death in Florida, accounting for approximately two out of every 10 deaths. Broward Health’s experienced team of cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, and electrophysiologists offers a comprehensive range of services that deliver exceptional cardiac and vascular care. These services include diagnostic testing such as lab work, stress tests, echocardiograms, and diagnostic catheterizations, as well as individualized treatments ranging from optimized medical management to the most advanced invasive cardiac procedures.
“This donation is in recognition and support of Dr. Bernardo (Bernie) Fernandez Jr. for his leadership and vision for the cardiovascular service line at Broward Health,” said Steve Mehallis, President of The Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation. “Our community will benefit from the latest technology and state-of-the-art labs.”
Among the benefits of these advancements are clearer and more precise imaging of heart and vascular structures; improved collaboration among physicians and healthcare professionals; increased physician recruitment; greater clinical and operational efficiency; and enhanced cardiovascular diagnostics and therapies for patients and the community.
“I am humbled by this donation in recognition of our cardiovascular service line,” said Dr. Fernandez, Broward Health Corporate Physician Executive. “With this thoughtful, generous gift, Broward Health will continue leading the way in providing patients with exceptional cardiac care, everyday excellence, and fulfilling our mission to be the champion for a healthier community.”
