Senior Services at Broward Health North

Memory Disorder Center

The Memory Disorder Center at Broward Health North is an outpatient diagnostic facility offering an interdisciplinary approach to determine the cause of memory impairment. This center is one of fifteen designated and funded by the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs as a part of the Alzheimers Disease Initiative (ADI) program. Our team of specialists including neurologists, neuropsychologists, geriatric psychiatrist, social workers and nurses, provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. Upon the completion of the diagnostic process, the patient and their caregivers meet with the neurologist and members of the interdisciplinary team to discuss the person-to-person plan of care which includes disclosure of diagnosis, advanced care planning and additional resources.

Memory loss can have many causes including thyroid imbalance, Alzheimer's disease, nutritional or metabolic disorders, stroke, or other neurological conditions.

When a patient is diagnosed with a memory disorder, such as Alzheimer's disease, every family member is affected, especially the caregiver. Through our unique programs, the Center offers a complete network of assistance for patients and caregivers.

Services Include:

  • Counseling and education
  • Support groups
  • Community referrals
  • Research
  • Crisis Respite program - provides in-home care for your loved one on an emergency basis to relieve caregivers
  • Driving evaluations (make live, content below)

If you have any questions about memory loss or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at 954-786-7392. Round-trip transportation to the Center is available upon request.

Safe Driver Assessment

People are often understandably proud of their past, safe driving record. But medical conditions can change everything. Even the best and most careful drivers can become unsafe to drive when their abilities are impaired by medical conditions. All too often, a medical condition can also affect insight and people are unaware of how dangerous their driving has become. Medically impaired drivers are a danger to themselves and others. It can be a difficult subject for family and friends to handle, that's when your physician can help to identify if a driving assessment is needed.

For more information or to schedule an assessment, call 954-786-7392.
