Broward Health Medical Center Hosts Drive-Through Scholarship Ceremony

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - The medical staff at Broward Health Medical Center awarded $10,000 in scholarships to local high school students who will be continuing their education in the medical field. Ten high school graduates from Dillard High School, Fort Lauderdale High School and Stranahan High School each received a $1,000 scholarship at a drive-through, no contact ceremony at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Students were awarded their scholarship check and received a gift bag with a special message of encouragement from Broward Health physicians.

The 2020 Broward Health Medical Center scholarship recipients were:

Dillard High School graduates Shatasia Daniels, majoring in nursing at Florida State University, Stephanie Gamble, a pre-med / biology student at Bethune-Cookman University, and Danesha Brown, a nursing major at Jacksonville State Univerisity;

Fort Lauderdale High School graduates Teron Brooks, who will major in physical therapy at the University of Central Florida, and Sarah Janvier, who is pre-med (pediatrics) at Florida Atlantic University; and

Stranahan High School graduates Cara Amburgey, who is pre-med (dermatopathology) at Florida Atlantic University, Maciel Castellano, majoring in nursing (oncology) at University of Florida, Llonique Jackson, who is pre-med at University of Florida, Krysta Johnson, who will major in nursing at Florida Atlantic University, and Rachel Richards, a pre-med student at Florida Gulf Coast University.

“It’s so important to support and nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Heather Havericak, CEO of Broward Health Medical Center/Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital. “We are proud of these students who are so deserving of these scholarships. We celebrate this accomplishment with them and are excited to see how they will positively impact the medical field for years to come.”
