Coral Springs, Florida - Broward Health Coral Springs has recently been designated a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing around-the-clock high level acute care for newborns in need of advanced specialty services. The team of neonatologists and skilled nursing staff are now equipped with the expertise and technology to stabilize infants born before 30 weeks gestation until they are ready for discharge or transfer.
“Our Level III NICU is dedicated to stabilizing and providing exceptional care to newborn babies who need special attention,” said Kristen Bowman, Broward Health Coral Springs CEO. “We’re able to ensure our newborns who require extra care receive the support they need from highly skilled staff in a healing environment that caters to both the parent and baby.”
The hospital was previously designated as a Level II NICU by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Becoming a Level III NICU allows premature newborns, born before 30 weeks, to receive medical interventions like breathing support, feeding tubes or surgery, without needing to be transferred to another institution. Recognizing a need to be equipped for more complex, high-risk situations, Broward Health Coral Springs invested $500,000 to ensure families have high-quality, complex care closer to home.
The Level III NICU, designed to provide exceptional care for premature, vulnerable newborns, features all private rooms, ensuring comfort and privacy for families during their stay at Broward Health Coral Springs. Parents and guardians have the option to stay overnight with their newborns, fostering a nurturing environment that supports family bonding. Each room is equipped with a dedicated breast milk refrigerator to support breastfeeding mothers and ensure the safety of stored milk.
With a focus on patent safety, each room is also equipped with central monitoring that is managed by a dedicated team of clinical experts. Scoring in the top 5% for patient experience among facilities nationwide, in 2024, the hospital’s NICU was honored with the prestigious Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey.
