Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Broward Health leaders announced the appointments of two hospital chiefs of staff on April 24, 2024, during the monthly board meeting.

Michael Ruddy, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon, was elected chief of staff for Broward Health Medical Center. He succeeds Sunil Kumar, M.D., who served for four years rather than the standard of two years to steer Broward Health’s flagship hospital through the pandemic.

“Dr. Ruddy brings a wealth of experience, dedication to patient care and a proven track record of leadership,” said Broward Health Medical Center CEO Manny Linares. “He is well-equipped to lead our medical staff in ensuring the delivery of exceptional healthcare to our community.”

Mohammed Abdallah, D.O., a vascular surgeon, was selected to be chief of staff for Broward Health North. He replaces Evan Boyar, M.D., who served for two years. Before his election, he served as vice chief of staff at the 409-bed hospital.

“With a proven track record of leadership and dedication to excellence in patient care, Dr. Abdallah brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Broward Health North,” said Broward Health North CEO Matthew Garner. “I have full confidence that Dr. Abdallah will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission of providing high-quality healthcare services to our community.”

In their new role beginning May 1, both Dr. Ruddy and Dr. Abdallah will represent their hospital medical staff to their respective administrations, the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners and in external public relations efforts. In addition, they will collaborate closely with the administration to address patient care initiatives and drive continuous improvements to the hospital.
