Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Sisters Dr. Annabelle Menendez and Dr. Katherine Menendez share a special bond following in the footsteps of their father who was a physician practicing family medicine in Miami. They celebrated that bond in a touching moment during Broward Health’s annual Graduate Medical Education (GME) White Coat Ceremony.
It was older sister, Katherine, who placed the traditional white coat on Annabelle marking the next step in her medical career as she begins a three-year residency in family medicine at Broward Health. Meanwhile Katherine is now completing her own family medicine residency, serving as Broward Health's chief resident.
“This is such a meaningful milestone for our family,” Annabelle said. “It is an honor for both my sister and me to follow in the path of our father who had an incredible influence on us, leading us both to where we are today. I am forever grateful to him and my sister.”
Annabelle was part of the Broward Health Graduate Medical Education (GME) incoming class of 141 residents and fellows, the largest GME class in the healthcare system’s history. She is one of 388 Broward Health residents and fellows across 28 residency and fellowship programs, including cardiovascular, emergency medicine, pediatrics and more who rotate throughout Broward Health facilities as part of their training experience.
Broward Health now has 28 residency and fellowship programs across the system: 24 are ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs; one is a CODA accredited OMFS program; and three are ASHP accredited pharmacy residency programs. There are 16 programs at Broward Health North, including the launch this year of the obstetrics and gynecology and pharmacy programs. There are 11 programs at Broward Health Medical Center and one program at Broward Health Imperial Point.
